Greenway Partners, an Arcata-based design, engineering and planning firm, received a prestigious award at the American Planning Association’s (APA) 2012 Planning Awards Celebration held May 11 in San Francisco.
Greenway was awarded the APA California Northern Section’s 2012 Grassroots Initiative Award of Merit for its report, “Developing the Seedbed for Arcata’s Emerging Entrepreneurs.” The APA California Northern Section inlcudes more than 1,900 members from the Monterey coastline to the northern border.
The APA’s Grassroots Initiative Award is given for an initiative that best illustrates how a community utilized the planning process to address a need that extends beyond the traditional scope of planning. Greenway prepared the award-winning report in Spring 2011 with the assistance of subcontractor Planwest Partners, also of Arcata. David Narum, one of the principals of Greenway, led the project team.
“We are excited about the opportunity this recognition provides us as we work to enhance opportunities for entrepreneurs and job creation in rural communities,” said Narum. “We thank the APA for this honor.”
